Yuli Freed

Hi, my name is Yuli & I'm a 20-year-old, multi-award-winning cinematographer & filmmaker based in Bristol, UK. For me, cinematography is lighthunting: the act of chasing light, and creating the powerful, emotive images that pull viewers deep inside a story.

My work runs across short films, music videos and commercials. Key credits include Wild Summon, nominated for the Palme d'Or at Cannes and a BAFTA, shortlisted for an Academy Award and screened at over 50 festivals worldwide; Mordros, which has won awards for its cinematography and directing; and Timepiece, seen by more than three million people online.

I work across cinema, mirrorless and film cameras, as well as all the lenses, rigs and anything else needed to make a vision into reality. I also hold a commercial drone licence with 700+ hours of air time across standard and FPV flying. As a visual storyteller, I strive to bring a powerful and inventive eye to every project, crafting images that elevate the story and stay with viewers long after they finish watching.

In 2023 I co-founded a YouTube channel called Breathing Films, a space to post the narrative short films I create with my co-founder. It acts as an extension of my work beyond this site, and we currently post monthly short films to a growing audience of 25,000 viewers and 3.5 million views.

I live in Bristol, working as a cinematographer, developing my skills, collaborating with production companies and building Breathing Films further. I'm very happy to be able to work on something I love.
